Location and access
Špindlerův Mlýn is situated close to Czech – Polish border, in a middle of Krkonoše (Giant Mountains) at less than 150km distance from Prague. Pension is situated in the very centre of Špindlerův Mlýn. Arrival by bus: There is a good bus connection from Prague and from Hradec Králové right to Špindlerův Mlýn. Arrival by train: Connection to the closest station Vrchlabí, than it is necessary to take a bus or a taxi (railway station is approximately 15 km from Špindlerův Mlýn.
Recreation and services in surroundings
The ideal placement means easy access to all services offered in the mountain centre – including skiing areas, starting points of tourist footpaths, rental services of sport equipment, shops and restaurants. In summer time, surrounding area of Špindlerův Mlýn offers many marked tourist footpaths crossing the most beautiful areas of the National Park of Giant mountains (Krkonoše). Difficulty of the tourist paths differs so that they are suitable for people of any age. Funiculars enable fast and physically undemanding access to mountain ridges Medvědín and Pláně so that even tourists with a lower physical or sport abilities can enjoy a beautiful view of mountains´ tops. The most favourite trips are: a walk to the source of the Elbe river which leads into a sea in Hamburg, and a track to the highest point of the Czech Republic – mountain Sněžka (1602 metres above sea level). Beside the mountain tracking, Špindlerův Mlýn and its surrounding offers many other popular sport and culture activities – for instance biking on mountain bikes, paragliding, horse riding, minigolf, tennis, swimming in a near dam or in pools, boating, summer bob-sleigh course, skittle-playing, squash, fishing, concerts … It is also possible to visit a close Poland. Foreign visitors can also make a trip to Prague, which is less than 150 km far from Giant mountains. Due to specific climate conditions, skiing season in Špindlerův Mlýn lasts from December to April. There are altogether 25km of downhill skiing pistes. They are daily maintained and most of them have an artificial snowing system. There are four modern chair funiculars and 15 ski lifts. Downhill ski pistes of all levels of difficulty are suitable for advanced skiers as well as for beginners and children. Skiing lessons are given in ski schools. Wide assortment of sport equipment is offered in rental services and shops. Snowboarders have a special snow park. The terrain around the town is good for winter tourism and cross-country skiers with no regard to their age and skills. Beside the marked paths, there are maintained cross-country trails of various length. Hotels offer possibilities of swimming in roofed swimming pools, tennis playing is available in a hall as well as skittle-playing, table tennis, squash and billiard. As for an entertainment, beside disco there are concerts, dance evenings and film performances. Taxi and horse sleigh is available.
