The town of Lovosice lies in the picturesque Elbe plain on the left bank of the Elbe, at the very foot of the Czech Middle Mountains. The natural landmark of the city is Lovoš mountain (national nature reserve - 570 m above sea level) with its twin Kybička, with a relative height above the river level of about 420 m with protected species of plants (leafless iris, white primrose, meadowsweet, etc.). The characteristic globular shapes of a number of other hills of Czech Middle Mountains give the landscape a distinctive character, noticeable especially when viewed from Lovosice. In the nearby neighborhood are the hills of Košťál with the ruins of the castle, Sutomský hill, Boreč and the "thunder mountain" Milešovka itself.
The entrance to the city along the river from the north is Porta Bohemica, where the Elbe, near Malé Žernoseke, has forced its way through the canyon and in these places forms a large arch through which it flows around the wall of the hunting unit.
The Litoměřice-Lovosice region is famous for its wealth of fruit trees and fields of farm crops. That is why it is rightly called the Garden of Bohemia.
